It's a Rocky Horror alright

'The Rocky Horror Picture Show' is a film that withal holds up to me as enormous fun and is a bully experience when seeing information technology at a midnight showing which adds to the atmosphere. There are a lot of people who don't see the appeal and understandably, every bit it is non a film for all tastes.

What makes 'The Rocky Horror Pic Bear witness' still swell fun to lookout are its timeless songs (especially "Fourth dimension Warp" and "Sweet Transvestite"), a clever and very funny script, a wonderfully naughty and risqué temper that pushed boundaries like no film had ever before and Tim Curry's landmark performance that deservedly turned him into a star. Whether you like it or non, it is difficult to deny that it is an ahead of its fourth dimension film and that there's very few if any films like it.

It is ever fairer to gauge something as its own entity, but in that location are times where information technology is very hard to compare two versions when so much that worked and so well previously fares disastrously here. That is the example with this 2016 Boob tube product, every bit an adaptation of the film and even the phase show information technology's an abomination only it is also an example of something where people would still be making the aforementioned criticisms without having seen or needing to encounter the original.

Redeeming values are very difficult to notice on the whole, but two things are done well. One is the cool opening scene in one of the few song renditions that treats the previous motion picture version's with fifty-fifty a shade of respect. The other is the courageous functioning of Tim Curry in the very small role of the Criminologist, despite beingness and so badly diminished past his stroke four years ago that hasn't stopped him doing what he loves and information technology's not stopped him giving a sincere, moving and authoritative performance.

Nonetheless, the production does suffer badly from existence too clean and too glamorous in product values when part of the movie'south charm was its decadence and that it feels far too watered down and too safe, in that location's very little to none of the sense that the film pushed boundaries or what made it so daring, wickedly naughty and unique. Despite the songs beingness and so great themselves, the re-arrangements certainly aren't, sounding and performed like they came from 'Glee' or something from the Disney Aqueduct. But "Scientific discipline Fiction" and "Hot Patootie" are treated with respect, with "Time Warp" being an absolute train-wreck in every regard and "Sugariness Transvestite" was but dull with Frank'due south archway (iconic before) lacking impact completely.

Equally for the script, piffling of the naughtiness and wit comes through due to erratic and as well fast line delivery, so the lines feel like they were thrown abroad rather than relished. Aside from Curry, another huge issue is bad casting. Topping or matching Tim Curry is incommunicable, but Laverne Cox (too take to agree that Frank does non work when played equally a woman, which points the point of the character, causing distracting and constant gender confusion that were very probable adventitious) even equally a standalone performance tries far too hard that everything about her performance becomes flat and forced.

Ryan McCarten and Victoria Justice sound, await and act similar they were auditioning for 'Glee', while Ben Vereen is a forgettable Dr Scott weirdly made up, Reeve Carney overdoes it as Riff Raff and strains his way through his whole music, Christina Milian is nowhere near sinister or conniving enough as Magenta and Annaleigh Ashford sleepwalks her way through Columbia. Adam Lambert also had potential to be a redeeming quality and while his singing is vivid he would take fabricated a much better Frank, he is too polished and theatrical for Eddie. Chemistry betwixt the performers is not-existent and the choreography is both leaden and overblown performed with lumbering energy.

Overall, a huge thwarting even when watching information technology with an open heed and without prejudice. Did call up information technology was non a skilful idea only accept been pleasantly surprised by how potentially bad ideas accept actually been executed well, but this TV production fails spectacularly when compared and on its ain. ii/10 Bethany Cox

Another timewarp

I think I watched The Rocky Horror Picture Prove in the early 1980s, before information technology was regarded as a solid cult archetype. It looked rather weird, inexpensive and at times amateurish. I simply really recognised Tim Back-scratch, Charles Gray and Meatloaf from that movie. Susan Sarandon meant nil to me back and so.

This remake is more inspired by the stage prove than the movie but feels rather staid, rubber and clinical. Probably non helped by the casting of Laverne Cox every bit the transsexual Dr Frank N Furter. The actress really comes across as too cute only at least I can capeesh the adventure they took in the casting. In a earth where a minor male glory involved in a hit and run can put on a dress in order to divert public and printing attending and gets to be regarded as a transgender heroine there has to be room for actual transgender performers!

The but other standout is Adam Lambert in his all too brief part as Eddie. He has been doing his fleck in filling the shoes of Freddie Mercury with the rock group Queen, hither he channels his inner Meatloaf.

An interesting opening which is presented by Ivy Levan as an usherette within a cinema. Tim Back-scratch pops upward equally the narrator but it just felt too bland.

What for? Why?

"The Rocky Horror Picture Evidence (1975)" is a cult-movie of one generation. Fans take been worshiping this film since its release in 1975. Great cast, witty screenplay and story, wonderful songs and passionate performances and direction. Therefore, this original moving picture should exist respected past producers and directors.

"The Rocky Horror Moving picture: Let'southward Do the Time Warp Again" is a poor and lame remake of the classic cult motion picture and fans of this picture will certainly be highly disappointed. The bisexual Laverne Cox is atrocious when comparing with Tim Curry in the original motion picture. The screenplay is terrible and my question is: "- What for and why this remake? It is better off watching the 1975 classic again than spending time watching this dreadful remake. My vote is three.

Seriously? A remake of TRHPS? But why?...

By all that is unholy, why? Why remake the 1975 classic? It just fabricated no sense in whatsoever way. But yet I took the time to sit downward and watch the 2016 remake titled "The Rocky Horror Movie Prove: Let's Do the Time Warp Once more" when I got the chance. Curiosity is a strange thing, isn't it? I will exist the first to admit that I was already wearing a negative collar before the movie had even started, because director Kenny Ortega was messing with a masterpiece in the musical genre.

The songs will take some time getting used to, because I have grown accustomed to the original versions and agree them upwards against the original. And from the very starting time song, information technology was sort of running coldly down the dorsum of my neck, because it just sounded incorrect and it felt like I was committing a sin in watching this. The songs had undergone a scrap of modify. For the amend? Well, that depends on who yous ask. But me, as a long-time fan of the original, then information technology didn't sit well with me that the songs were retouched and modified in this way. Only fair is off-white, the songs themselves are cracking, they are just not the originals. For for a new audience the songs would exist swell.

It should exist said that they had an impressive production value to this remake. Merely again, then overly unnecessary to remake what was already perfect and timeless. So why do the Timewarp again?

It was nice to run across Tim Curry make an appearance in this 2016 remake, despite not reprising the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter. So at least the remake does pay some respect and homage to the original and also gives a nod in the direction of us long-fourth dimension fans of the original musical.

As for the cast, well they had some good enough talents on the cast list, though I can't really claim to be overly familiar with the people in that location. Just they were doing skilful jobs with their given roles and characters.

I am feeling somewhat ambivalent about the characters, considering in that location are singled-out similarities, but as well deviations from the original ones. Reeve Carney was doing an almost a frame-by-frame copy of Richard O'Brien in the role of Riff Raff. Sure, I can acknowledge and understand the choice of Laverne Cox equally Frank-N-Furter given the transsexual matter, but she was no Tim Curry every bit the original Frank-N-Furter, not even reaching him to the knees. Actually, virtually of the character were a difficult pill to swallow if y'all are a fan of the original 1975 version, just Reeve Carney and Laverne Cox were the 2 that proved the almost biting.

Information technology was a scrap odd and distracting to accept the moving-picture show alternating between the events in the story and showcasing the audience participation in the theater. It just didn't had a natural period to information technology.

Non existence able to properly sing along was a major setback for the movie, especially when watched past us long-time fans of the original. Certain, nosotros knew the exact words, but the timing and delivery was just freakishly distorted and warped.

Visually then "The Rocky Horror Picture: Let'due south Do the Time Warp Again" was interesting and quite much in the essence and spirit of the 1975 version, though information technology was spruced up to a more contemporary fourth dimension, for better or worse.

This musical is suitable for viewers whom like musicals and whom may for some unknown reason have eluded getting acquainted with the original 1975 masterpiece. And I can in all honesty say that I have now watched this 2016 remake one time, but it will never be watched again, because it was frankly just so upsetting that they remade the original piece.

I am a big fan of the original 1975 version, as you conspicuously can see from my words hither, but I can't claim to ever become a fan of the 2016 remake.

A re-imagining of the Rocky Horror stage bear witness and movie.

Warning: Spoilers

This show on Fox network has been advertised for a long time and, it seems, nearly of the biggest fans of the 1970s flick objected long before it was aired. It seems most of them made upwards their minds that it would be terrible and set about fulfilling that prophecy. It is reflected in so many rude comments in the discussions pages.

Just was it really that bad? Of form not. I never was a big fan of the original, I saw it a few years dorsum and, while it is entertaining in spots, it is generally a silly show that has gained a cult post-obit. You know, it is so bad that it is adept.

That original had Tim Curry in the main function merely over the years he has had medical issues and essentially has given up his career on screen. But he makes a render in this production as The Criminologist and narrator and it is good seeing him. It works very well.

My favorite performance was Laverne Cox, really a transgender histrion, as transgender Dr. Frank-Northward-Furter. The acting was great and I was pleasantly surprised at that resonant singing voice.

Was this re-imagining necessary? No, information technology wasn't. But it gave a new generation of actors a chance to do their matter and I'k sure most who took the time to encounter it were entertained. That is near all we can ask for, isn't it?

No need at all to effort to compare information technology to the movie.

Not too bad only no classic

I saw the original some years agone. I recall information technology was on Play a joke on too. I don't call back much except that Tim Curry's Frank-n-Furter was icky.

When the cast does the outset big song and trip the light fantastic toe number, the ane whose name is in the title of this production, it'southward pretty good, really. And there'southward a band. I don't remember if that was in the original.

Periodically, the audience reacts. I don't think plenty employ was made of them. I figured they'd do everything costumed audiences have done at special showings of the original movie for decades. And they may have, in the few cases the audience was shown. "Not bad Scott!" And everyone pulls out a roll of toilet paper, for example.

With all the commercial breaks, I was really surprised at how short this actually was. This was supposed to be a peachy archetype movie? I couldn't really figure out why, considering it never seemed to corporeality to anything.

Still, the private acting and musical performances were quite skilful for the most function. The music was good if this is what you like. Mostly early 60s-style jazz-influenced stone and roll with a detour into heavy metal at one point. The costumes were great too. And some visual effects were used toward the stop--nothing fancy, though, but at that place was some magic, including freezing some characters. Although they may take been really good at keeping notwithstanding, not even blinking.

Tim Curry is pretty good at offset, but considering he is Tim Curry, there'south nothing special well-nigh his other appearances. I could even say he seems bored.

Nothing that special virtually the monster. My starting time impression was he had Tom Hanks' face, Baton Idol's pilus and Arnold Schwarznegger's body.

Laverne Cox was deliciously nasty, if you like that sort of thing. I didn't, only I believe it was a fine performance. Just don't endeavor to tell me that was supposed to be a man in drag. Not once did I feel information technology was a man.

Reeve Carney did a bully job equally the butler. From his very first line I thought he was one of the best actors.

Annaleigh Ashford did a perfect Cyndi Lauper with attitude, except when singing. She has a different singing manner.

Victoria Justice was beautiful and had quite a good singing voice. I loved the expect on her confront during the big song and dance number, which must have been terrifying to these poor kids. She was at her all-time later on when she seemed to take existence a prisoner. And she spent most of the moving-picture show in underwear.

Adam Lambert didn't fully accomplish his potential. I know he has talent but Eddie the biker didn't do much. However, I don't think he should have been Brad, who was more of a Clark Kent and not really the blazon of role that i would associate with Lambert. Ryan McCartan seemed suited to that role.

Ben Vereen is also a talented actor. I don't know what to think of what he did here. It'south non his fault. Information technology's the material.

Anyway, I expected this to be another big classic, and while it wasn't anything like that, and not really my taste to begin with, it wasn't a failure either.

2d Viewing was Improve-Of Course Cleaned-Up for TV!

Warning: Spoilers

The original has a few more "showstopping" songs. The costumes needed to be tighter and skimpier. The simply improved scene was the pyrotechnics for the nascency of Rocky. Laverne Cox is a fleck too female-looking! Tim Curry was a more than accurate cantankerous-dresser. The "Castle Usherette" was better than 10 minutes of just ruby lips, a cop-out to salvage money as It was too expensive in 1975, to shoot the original titles with the picture show clips. The new Dr. Frank-N-Furter should take been Miley Syrus, who can look very androgynous, if she wants to. Seems to drag a bit in the middle. (Sorry) Watch the old movie and compare them to each other. It seems more like a tribute bear witness and it plays and then much better if y'all think of it that way. IMDb "User critics" are calling it the worst TV remake ever? "Peter Pan" was far worse with a dreadful performance past Christopher Walken as Capt. Claw. How quickly they forget! I own several versions of "Scrooge" and the comparison here is that there just might exist room in my big disc collection for another RHPS version equally well!

Damn it, Janet!

Warning: Spoilers

Rocky Horror reboot review. (Lets Do The Timewarp Again)

Scientific discipline Fiction Double Feature. Not a neat start, the young lady singing this was overplaying her very small-scale part. People might complain nigh the miming but most of the movie cast miming there. Non good, not terrible either.

Wedding scene into Damn it, Janet! I liked the throw in of the Transylvanians equally the funeral political party. Cute Mary Shelley grave (There is a light? Dainty visual egg! Equally well as a Frankenstein reference, Score 2 points). When I saw the "grieving widow" I immediately worked out that was Frank, and the Transylvanians aren't having a burial, they're clearly stealing trunk parts to build Rocky! Very clever & I uncertainty many people got that. Score ane indicate.

Narrator intro. Tim looking as well as can be expected after a stroke, slight paralysis on 1 side but he speaks well.

There's A Lite. Non a bad rendition at all. Riff Raff can't decide if he wanted to be Richard O'Brian or Steve Tyler more than. "You're wet." Actually they should be soaked to the skin, Brad should, at least. But both expect far as well dry. Lose ii points for this goof.

The Fourth dimension Warp. Not a good get-go at all, almost as though Riff Raff had had the vocal described to him past a deaf person. Emphasis in all the wrong places. Christina Milian playing Magenta? Going a picayune over the height for my taste. Not certain we needed the constant callbacks to the movie theater audience either, if it was supposed to make me feel more part of the experience it failed miserably. Riff Raff confirms the Steve Tyler theory by playing guitar. How hands did I phone call that earlier even seeing it? Lose 1 point for being predictable.

Not sure who was playing Columbia simply she'southward cute. Just the right corporeality of intensity. Song went almost 2 choruses besides long, I feel.

Sweet Transvestite. No elevator? What the ACTUAL f***? The pitch & chord shift made the opening of this unrecognizable until Laverne Cox started singing. Not good, simply not atrocious. Trying besides much to be Tim Curry.

Off to the lab. And then an lift is established only not used in Sweet Transvestite. Cox trying & failing in the Tim Curry impression, even downward to his movie extemporaneous's. Reactor buttons deliberately made up to look like nipples on breasts. Cute touch. Score one point for that.

Sword Of Damocles. Wasn't sure they were going to carp with this. Non sure how they were planning to practice Rocky's balustrade jump live.

I Tin Make You A Human being. So so. Non ane of my favorite songs whatever style.

Hot Patootie. Oh dearest, you aren't Meatloaf simply you tried. Not sure how they were planning to exercise Eddie's bike jump live.

I Can Make You A Human Reprise. Wasn't in one case plenty?

Touch-A-Touch-Me. I'm getting of tired of Cox's Curry impression by this bespeak, is she non going to try and bring ANYTHING new to the role? The strip at the bottom of Janet's sideslip makes sense at last and nosotros get a couple of Jesus iconography points (Rocky's paw wound & his hanging from the bed like a cross). This for me was an all or zip song. Information technology started out well only failed to sustain the power. If you sing this, give it the beans.

Eddie. Not a bad rendition at all. Doctor Scott tried his best but he wasn't a good vocalizer. Score 1 point.

Planet, Schmanet, Janet (aka Wise Up, Janet Weiss). Finally, a song where Cox isn't trying to be Tim Curry! The elevator is actually seen in use and moving in this scene so I'grand not sure why they didn't go with its usage in Sweet Transvestite. Score ane point.

Rose Tint My Earth. Very well performed indeed, anybody does a practiced job and they all look bang-up as well. Score ane point.

Floor Evidence, Fanfare/Don't Dream It - Be It. Decent Enough. They even went with the pool. Score one point.

Wild and Untamed Thing/Rose Tint My Globe. Well, the show is almost over bar the shouting. Information technology hasn't been terrible but they didn't really endeavour to heighten this in a higher place the movie. Sad, really.

I'm Going Home. I'm non sure why we went through the whole operation referring to Frank by the masculine gender only to take the cast start saying "her" correct at the end? Minor switch from using the RKO Tower to using Kong's hand.

Super Heroes. Wow, they're performing this? Totally unexpected! They really did go for a complete performance then. Score 1 indicate.

Science Fiction/Double Feature (Reprise). Well I approximate we needed a proper "lips" functioning for this to really exist Rocky Horror and they didn't disappoint.

General feelings? No awful only no attempt to really try anything new. Cox just did her impression of Tim Back-scratch which wasn't slap-up. I quite liked the Transylvanians dressed in 70'due south apparel to reflect the decade this was originally made in. You lot only can't beat the movie.

An homage, non a remake

I of the more en vogue things to do in 2016, specially if you're a super fan of 1975's The Rocky Horror Moving-picture show is to hate the thought of Fox rebooting the film for today'due south audiences with The Rocky Horror Motion-picture show Show: Let's Do the Time Warp Again. Many fans of the seminal Jim Sharman rock musical came prepared to hate this re-imagining earlier it always started. The Let'southward Do The Fourth dimension Warp Again version could not possibly top the 75 cult classic that'south still running in theatres today, nor did that production call back they could or intend to. When thinking of this version as simply a re-imagining for today'due south audiences instead of a remake with hopes of replacing it, one can have a much more enjoyable feel watching it. The production notes themselves admit that they are not attempting a remake, they simply wish to pay homage and bring the 1975 motion-picture show to audiences who have peradventure never seen information technology, and to inspire a new generation to expect up The Rocky Horror Motion-picture show Testify upon which this pic is based.

Just like the 1975 version starring the perfectly casted Tim Curry, Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Laverne Cox), a transplant from the planet Transsexual, has become distracted with whatever piece of work she and her minions, Riff Raff (Reeve Carney), Magenta (Christina Milian), and Columbia (Annaleigh Ashford) is seeking to make a perfect human solely for sexual pleasure. Secluded in a castle off the main road, the group is surprised when they are visited by a young, engaged, couple Brad Majors (Ryan McCartan) and Janet Weiss (Victoria Justice). Initially, Brad and Janet are taken aback, as the two come from an idyllic minor boondocks with sexually primitive values. After experiencing the liberation that comes from sexual exploration, however, Brad and Janet brainstorm to enjoy their fourth dimension at the castle. When Frank-Due north-Furter proves to be a flake unbalanced after killing another i of his creations, Brad and Janet just begin to promise that they will be able to get in back to Denton alive.

In terms of paying homage to the Richard O'Brien written play from 1975, The Rocky Horror Moving picture Show: Allow's Do the Time Warp Again (2016) does a fantastic job. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is known for its status in pic theatres. Still running today, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the longest-running film in movie theatre history and is well known for being viewed by a raucous crowd who delivers their own script as the moving-picture show plays. The continuous shots of an audience watching the pic interactively was a bright impact to pay homage to the cult archetype The Rocky Horror Pic has become. There were also several other nods to the 1975 feature throughout the film such as the 41st annual convention sign when Cox makes her archway equally Dr. Frank-N-Furter noting that 41 years ago the motion-picture show premiered. The Rocky Horror Picture Bear witness: Let's Practise the Fourth dimension Warp Again (2016) is very aware that it is a picture, and it owns that moniker rather than intending to make the audience forget that they are watching a motion-picture show. Laverne Cox enters on a well-known movie prop referenced in the 1975 classic, we see images of the snack bar at the front of the theatre several times throughout the film, also. Interim as a wink to the audiences, these props also seek to remind audiences that this movie is not intending to be a remake, and certainly not intending to supervene upon a classic. The film is not without its faults, of course, near notably a horribly miscast Brad and a serial of strange acting choices. I was reminded of a quote past my favorite actor Gene Wilder (remainder his soul) "If the physical thing you're doing is funny, you don't accept to act funny while doing it...Just be real and information technology will exist funnier". To me, this quote struck a chord with me because there seemed to exist and so much missed emotion and overacting because the principles weren't as well in-tuned with the emotions or motivations of their source characters. All-in-all, The Rocky Horror Picture Testify: Let's Do the Time Warp Over again (2016) was a fun homage to the 1975 film The Rocky Horror Picture Show, of which I am one of those die-hard fans, that makes about as many marks every bit information technology misses, all the same serves as a wonderful homage to a favorite cult classic.

A truthful crash-and-burn MESS! Truly, nauseatingly atrocious.

The old saying about 'messing with a classic', is perfectly on display here.

'Re-booting', or doing a new version does NOT - rarely does - mean 'improved'.

This is something SO bad, that HULU should've demanded it totally be re-bandage, re-shpt, re- everything, and had the people involved in this not just fired, only, forced to repay the money WASTED.

Hell; I'd take '''em to court, and shake them by their ankles, if need be.

The 'talent' - used in this truthful 'horror' are people who are so lacking in talent, they make upwardly - in spades (full of sh-t) in their mugging for the cameras, their raging.... egos on display.

Tim Curry is in it, and whilst I'm sure the people behind this travesty thought it'd be a 'nod' to their 'homage', I'm positive he did it for the cheque.

Richard O'Brian - who wrote and starred in the original, as Riff-Raff, also must've said after hearing the synopsis, and seeing the money, 'this won't be remembered as anything more than a bad case of tum flu, and he'd be right.

The idiot who plays Riff-Raff is some person who starred in the 'broadway (lower-case 'b' on purpose) show' (coughing, cough, Cough!) of a (I tin't believe this) musical version of ... Spider man, the no-talent babbles (forever, it seems), in his (vanity-slathered, cocky-penned, 'natch) IMDb bio, about how he started in this matter. Now, it IS true 'big names WERE involved in information technology, yet, this thing is GONE, and it only opened in 2013, so, that'south not skillful 'staying power', and the whole matter was endlessly ridiculed, mocked - and worse (and at that place've been many examples of people with 'reputations' making some gosh-atrocious travesty - this is notwithstanding, another).

He goes on - in his self-penned 'ode' - virtually how he was destined from the outset to 'human activity'.

'Cute' he might exist - in a very fey, androgynous (yawn) way, but, cute doesn't age well - at all ('Whatever Happened To Baby Jane's a good example), and right now - his screeching whine could make cats commit suicide.

As for the others...I'd pay anyone who - without looking - could give the CV on them all - or even 2, because, they're not the 'Stars of today', and definitely not tomorrow .

I AM distressing Laverne Cox from Orange is in this. She must've thought 'this'll gimme the chance to prove my range, and versatility', whilst -sadly - the morons who made information technology must've said; 'she's a big proper name, and - oooh; how 'radical' to have a real transgender play one'!

Yipes.

The re-orchestration, of the tunes is more than ego-run-rampant - by people who badly want it known 'they did information technology', - and screw the music.

What it shows, in stead, is they've NO Agreement of NO APPRECIATION of - the music.

The camera work'southward a joke - a perfect example, would be the Time Warp.

In this function, the merely thing I found - non good', but, intriguing - was several moves done during the dance, only, different the original - or, ANY musical, for that thing - the camera is all over the place - it never focuses on ANY thing, for fifty-fifty 5 seconds.

Now, pick-cuts might be 'the latest' (it's not. It WAS - past-tense), simply, it's Non the way to show Trip the light fantastic.

The bit which intrigued me, is the dancers would form shapes, and would pull, button, trust, almost similar origami, being unfolded, yet, information technology was impossible to either scout, or enjoy, because the camera couldn't finish!

The (literal) whiny, screeching by 'Spider Man'/Riff-Raff during this hurt my ears (NO; I'1000 NOT 'onetime', I'm 30, just, I DO have taste, and I do work in this business). Whereas Richard O'Brian would beginning the number off in a monotone, then alter - to a different - well-nigh shriek, and so the song inverse styles throughout information technology'southward two-3 minutes, this is done in JUST 2 modes; screeching, and annoying.

Some chick - the one who's supposed to be Columbia - looks more than like that Harly Quinn in that moving-picture show this past summer, I sh-t you not.

Save yourself, your ears, and eyes, and don't - Exercise NOT - watch this crapola.

Warning: Spoilers

The original Rocky was all about the stunning music arrangements and the wonderful performances etc At what point didn't someone say "heh guys these new versions don't work!" If you've seen the original you volition hate it, if y'all haven't seen the original you will also hate it ! In that location's simply no point to it, at that place's been many bad remakes of classic films and musicals over the years but I struggle to find anything that is worse than this, I am amazed that the vivid Richard O' Brien (who wrote the original) didn't terminate it happening when he could see how bad it was becoming! I can merely assume he had signed abroad rights to stop this pointless awful remake! There's non words to express how bad this is compared to the original classic, and so and then yourself a favour avoid information technology and watch the first. What a waste of money.

A insult

Warning: Spoilers

A insult to the original, astonishingly bad, astonishing that many people involved in the original were involved in this travesty. If you sentry this you wouldn't want to come across the classic version as you would be put off, true Rocky fans can't stand up this either, it's just awful, miscast, bad acting, glee performances and over produced garbage. Unwatchable, avoid like the plague and watch the fabulous original, that i you desire regret ! Information technology's genius.

When you try to fix something that isn't broken!!!

So, every bit a huuuuuge lover of the original RHPS and subsequently seeing a well-made version in a theather that left me happy, comes this.. without whatever charisma, uniqueness, nerve or talent (deplorable I had to re-create RuPaul there..). Reeve Carney was the only decent affair about this and that own't much, trust me. Did they drug poor Tim Curry to brand a deplorable cameo? Ir maybe threaten him in a gunpoint? Anyway, I will rather eat broken glass than watch this ever again.

Condescendingly cocky-aware

First things commencement, I was among the few who was genuinely excited about this remake. I thoroughly enjoyed 2015's "Rocky Horror Bear witness Live" (check Yous Tube) and the various other musical TV productions of recent years. However, my enthusiasm gradually transformed into disgust for what I was witnessing. When I was in junior high and loftier school, I was ridiculed for my obsessive love of Rocky Horror. Then in 1991, Play a joke on debuted the flick for Halloween and the adjacent day, the very same kids who'd made fun of me were Time Warping in the school hallway. It was weird, and I subsequently realized that was THE moment when RHPS began to mutate from a subversive cult thing to a mainstream classic. Watching this glossy travesty, I found myself overwhelmed by that aforementioned uneasy feeling I had a quarter-century agone after Play a joke on first aired the film.

It took me a while to figure out the trouble with the 2016 version. The cast and coiffure bestowed it with the same respect that audiences accept shown the film in theaters for decades: They've treated information technology like it'due south schlock to be made fun of. In that location were certainly campy winks and nods in the original, only when information technology came time for the characters to emote, you believed Tim Back-scratch could abruptly snap and violently murder someone or Susan Sarandon was having spontaneous orgasms. Those nuances are more often than not absent in the performances here, and information technology's so cocky-aware and Disney-fied that it'south kind of insulting. It's one matter for the audience to mock the screen, but most of the actors are mocking the characters that they themselves are portraying, which just doesn't work.

The dishonor of worst performance goes to Ben Vereen, who was woefully miscast as Dr. Scott. Placing the black Vereen in the role of uncle to white Adam Lambert'south Eddie was a questionable decision to begin with, but Vereen mugs his way through his scenes, acting every bit if he'south starring in some insipid kiddie one-act. Information technology's downright bizarre. Runner-upwardly in the worst performer category goes to Laverne Cox, who gives an absolutely exuberant but ultimately hollow operation as the mad scientist. Cox offered none of the underlying menace that Curry displayed in the role (Tim Curry could kill you, but Laverne Cox only seems capable of a whopping bitchslap) and she played it like she was the singular star in a glitzy elevate show, mimicking Curry's syllables and vocal inflections with an abrasive, fluctuating British/Southern Belle accent. The good Franks (Anthony Head, for example) fully inhabited the character and injected information technology with their ain postage stamp, which Cox did not.

Perhaps the worst aspect of this production (overlooking the fact that the dancers aren't doing the steps existence audibly described in the titular Time Warp) is how they've systematically whitewashed the rampant sexuality which was so pivotal to the flimsy plot. Today sexual deviancy is socially acceptable, other network TV offerings frequently devolve into scenes that would have once been considered 10-rated -- and the Play a joke on network aired the original film numerous times throughout the 1990s with minimal trims, so at that place'south really no excuse. Casting Cox as a woman (regardless of the fact that she used to be a dude) completely undermines the story of the wholesome Get out it to Beaver couple existence torn apart by a kinky sex freak. It was the gay community which embraced the film dorsum in the '70s, we have at least one openly gay and i transgendered star, and yet virtually all traces of homosexuality (too equally incest) were eliminated. It'southward oddly incongruous and completely destroys the narrative.

That's not to say that everything'southward bad. Adam Lambert and Ivy Levan are stand-outs as Eddie and the Usherette. Annaleigh Ashford gave a radically unlike interpretation of Columbia which works well, given the character'south story arc. Similarly, Reeve Carney fabricated Riff-Raff his ain. Victoria Justice has an awesome singing vocalisation. Tim Back-scratch lends an advisable air of dignity, and although he was physically unable to do all the things that his role required (such as turning the pages of a book), they came upwardly with an inventive workaround. Squeamish to see him once again, even in poor health. Unfortunately, the cons FAR outweigh the pros in this production.

More often than not speaking, the remake that no one wanted (dating back to the days when MTV was going to do it) has lived upwards to all of the hateful hype. It brings zero new to the table, it's similar a pallid carbon-copy on tissue paper. Your best bet's to stick with the original, see the 2015 version or catch a live show instead.

I'one thousand shocked by bad reviews!! It'due south Amazing!

I expected I'd hate it. I loved information technology.

I've seen the original moving-picture show many times and had all the soundtracks. Went to midnight shows a few times and knew every moment of it, since it showtime came out. I loved this re-imagining.

The sound quality is far better then the original and some of singing is improve and the mix is thicker than the original. I was and so surprised how good it is. Of course our new narrator is hilarious.

Getting use to the new Frankenfurter is hard of grade, simply again I was surprised. It was fantastic performance, although her lead vocals should have louder in the mix at times. What a role challenge!

From a purely cinematic viewpoint, this 1 is superior. In the original moving-picture show there are some poor audio recording here and in that location with a hollow cheap audio at times.

I'm sad to come across these bad reviews, that must sting these performers. Information technology was terrific and should go awards. To those disappointed, watch it again. 10+

First-class! BRAVO!

Not LIVE, feels dead

What was the point of doing this if it were not following the Alive performance craze? It's already been made into a great filmed movie. Why exercise it once again? It's banal, thrown together like a live production, without the necessity from that need. I don't get it.

Over-Hated, but not Underrated

Funny enough, I think its strengths prevarication in what the original did weaker, and its weaknesses are where the original was strong.

Look, I'yard not going to pretend that either Rocky Horror is a good moving picture; it's non. Sure, the original was weird, a beloved classic, and probably the film that boot-started the very idea of cult films, just it's not good. In fact, I wouldn't even get so far as to say that I liked it. I like SOME of the music (Fourth dimension Warp, Hot Patootie, and especially Sugariness Transvestite), I like Riff Raff and his sis Magenta, I liked Meatloaf as a freeze-dried biker, I freaking LOVED Tim Curry as Dr. Furter, merely everything else garnered a "meh" at all-time.

So I can't exist bothered to go likewise aroused at a film that more or less strikes even in terms of quality. The acting'south a lot less sloppy from everyone this time around, with the human characters and Rocky turning in solid performances. I dug the set pattern, a little more than quality while still looking like bizarre horror-movie. Sidebar: why didn't they take the time to honor some of the NEW sci-fi and horror icons that have come afterward 1976? The original was a tribute to O'Brien's love of schlock, so why couldn't someone else's love of schlock exist shown here? The just reference I caught was a rather ingenious if obvious Dorsum to the Futurity wink, which I dare non spoil. They saw an opportunity, and they took it.

The songs are... Surprisingly, I enjoyed them more than the originals, with two exceptions. And, unfortunately, those exceptions happen to be the biggest songs of the movie: Fourth dimension Warp and Sweetness Transvestite. It baffles me how they managed to brand welcome updates to the lesser numbers, even getting Hot Patootie on-indicate, simply then managed to screw up the same ii through over-production and lifeless performances. Riff Raff sounds cracking when he's doing the Richard O'Brien voice (which I dug; Richard O'Brien sounds like an other-worldly weirdo already; see "Dark City" if you want proof of his song perfection). But when he sings for realsies, he sounds like a generic 2010s pop singer; they ALL do.

I also retrieve the flick suffers is areas where it tries to be Besides faithful. Coming to mind is that dual-seduction joke with Furter going to Janet and Brad's individual bedrooms. In the original it was funny, but considering they swapped Furter'south gender and kept the same social club of visits, the humour isn't every bit potent this time. Purists were going to wail anyway, so why not change information technology? And if Laverne Cox wasn't going to pull of the Frank Northward. Furter accent, just practice away with information technology. Give her a unlike sexy-mad-scientist accent, one that she at least keeps consistent.

If y'all're a fan of the original, you accept no reason to lookout this movie. It doesn't modify enough to warrant your curiosity, and I guarantee you won't like the tamer elements. Your original Rocky Horror is still being shown and this Telly flick isn't slowing its juggernaut of a theatrical run. But if your like me and thought the original was a bad picture show with some brilliant high points, requite this a picket. If I had to say which one to watch get-go, the 1976 version. There are some moments and reactions that need to exist experienced fresh, and the original, despite its flaws, had more teeth than this one.

It's a case of Temple of Doom vs. Crystal Skull: do you accept a mediocre flick that more or less plays it condom, or a bad film that throws caution to the wind? In both cases, I cull the one that's less polished simply more than memorable where it DOES shine.

Finally, TIM Back-scratch, KEEP THE Comeback COMING, YOU BEAUTIFUL, BEAUTIFUL Human!

A Nice Adaption That Certainly Had Its Moments

I wasn't planning on writing a review for this picture just afterward seeing all the hate it is getting, I had to try and rest the scale in the review section. The rating is a real poor representation of the quality that the evidence provided. I ordinarily but meet this kind of hate on the comic book movie pages, but at least in that location is a adept amount of 10'due south and 1's to even out the score. The problem here is that the majority of people who wanted to sentinel it were fans of the original, and from what I hear most seem to hate on it. So don't believe in the rating as the show was no where most that bad.

Of course I was skeptical at showtime when the announcement came. As before long every bit the music started playing and we encounter the usherette; I was assured that this will non be awful. Near of the scenes were faithful to the moving picture with the best moments coming from the "Impact Me" song betwixt Victoria Justice and Staz Nair. To some of the cringe worthy attempts namely the entrance of Laverne Cox (she did get better as the movie progressed though). For the flick as a whole I rather enjoyed it. I believe the problem with most is that they compared information technology to the original. The film is such an iconic piece of movie house that of course a TV movie on Trick volition neglect in comparison (they are limited as to what they can and can't show). I rarely say this but this Television set MOVIE is worth checking out. If you lot enjoyed the film but don't think of it as some holy scripture that can't be touched and so definitely give this a endeavour as you will be surprised at the fact they captured some of the scenes very well.

I enjoyed most of the characters in the show and would rank them as such:

1.)Ryan McCartan as Brad two.)Adam Lambert equally Boil three.)Ivy Levan as Usherette 4.)Annaleigh Ashford as Columbia 5.)Victoria Justice as Janet(she grew on me/ didn't start well) half-dozen.)Laverne Cox equally PhysicianFrank-North-Furter 7.)Tim Curry equally the Criminologist8.)Ben Vereen as Everett Scott nine.)Staz Nair every bit Rocky ten.)Reeve Carney as Riff Raff 11.)Christina Milian as Magenta...or whatever that was

Weak contains spoilers

Warning: Spoilers

A good solid effort if this was done by a high schoolhouse drama class. Equally for a remake they did keep true to the story line. The scenes they changed I didn't run into a signal in doing, simply change for change's sake.

The sound quality wasn't good. the original, from 1975, sounded amend. For a musical it was hard to hear what was being sung. The soundtrack from the days of 8 track tapes sounds improve than a modern prove. This was not an accident. It was done to comprehend people who can't sing and / or bad product.

I did similar the meatloaf joke. The audience participation that was included in this version. Also, an united nations-credited cameo by the comedian Carrot Tiptop as a groundwork dancer.

Casting was a mess. I'm merely thankful they didn't go with Johnny Knoxville for the roll of Eddie. They went too far diversifying the bandage. Black uncle with a white nephew and white brother with a black sister. Laverne Cox tin can't sing or act. Ironically she got this job solely for the fact that she has a penis. Shame on you Tim Curry, did you need the money?

Disaster or how Rocky Horror died

A remake should bring something to the tabular array and I was hopeful when they started out with the usherette singing Science Fiction which is the loftier signal of the film. Everything goes down from at that place as the most miscast picture show struggles to non look similar the worst amateur dress rehearsal ever of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Poorly staged, directed and some of the worst acting I have ever seen. Information technology seems that the producer (Adler trying to milk Rocky for whatever is left) Casts Cox (OITNB) for what I can simply judge is to exploit her own personal, sexuality. Information technology is a jumbo error since she is far to opposing of a presence to proceeds sympathy equally Frank N Futter which is necessary to sell the end of the play. She is not the worst in the film, that would probably be the histrion who plays Brad, with Magenta a very close 2nd (I practice not desire to mention Columbia since just reading off your lines with no emotion is not acting at all.) The thing that really brings the show down is Ben Vereen and Tim Curry, two wonderful stage actors, who now in various stages of illness, seem pathetic in these supporting parts as they struggle against a senseless, and poorly executed product that should have been aborted before the showtime set was congenital. My proffer is to spotter the first number then watch the classic Rocky Horror...

Horrible

I gave information technology a two for costumes and it's rocky horror. But this sucks. What were they thinking with the changes to the music and the unnecessary phonation changes? The merely histrion they got correct was riff raff. How can you possibly do worse than the original? Completely lack whatever sort of spark, put a woman in the role of Frank, place it in an erstwhile picture firm, and have some of the worst interim I've ever seen.

Why would they bring in Adam lambert and not make him frank? And practise tell me why Columbia isn't falling all over Eddie.

It's actually painful to watch. And I'm seriously non certain how much more I can stand.

over hyped remake that didn't capture the spirit of the original

The Rocky Horror Picture show bear witness released in 1975 was a cult classic which has since gained a following that has been huge over almost l years the remake is supposted to make the orginal so special and introduce a new generation into Brad and Janet's story a night they won't forget and yet this remake was so forgetable and i really thought that by copying the unabridged original pic they could not screw anything up and yet i thought that the songs while the same as the original had a certin forced feel to the songs and the time warp was streched out and and had nothing that the original had. The activeness and one-act that the original had was almost gone and i thought that it didn't have the pazzaz that Tim Curry brought to Frank-Northward-Furter and Laverne Cox did bring her own take to the graphic symbol and the rest of the cast Ivy Levan ,Ryan McCartan, Victoria Justice, Christina Milian, Staz Nair, Reeve Carney, Adam Lambert, Annaleigh Ashford and Tim Curry bring there own accept on there chracters and some of the characters like Eddie was butchered and was non treated horribly. Overall I didn't similar the remake and some parts made me experience nostalgia for the original movie and some parts of information technology made me regret the original considering of how terrible they made it and i think that maybe information technology was a bad thought that they fifty-fifty remade the original motion-picture show and they should have just left it and i hope they don't exercise it again

A Money Maker for the Network Execs, Disaster for Everyone Else

Exactly the same as the old Rocky Horror film. Except with a less talented and interesting cast. And a lot more corporate oversight. And a lot less sexy and bloody, because of the prime fourth dimension television audience.

In other words, nothing like the old Rocky Horror film.

It was a treat to see Tim Back-scratch. I wonder if he wanted to bound out of that wheelchair and scream at everyone for destroying his legacy?

My congratulations go to the network executives and producers, who I'm sure spent near nothing on this production, and fabricated a fortune on ad acquirement.

Fox did such a great task with its live Grease broadcast that my hopes were over-inflated for this 1. Let's promise that future Fox broadcasts make upwards for this fiasco.

I wish Hollywood would brand a People's LIST of projects NEVER to have a remake/reboot or any resemblance to the original!

Some projects (typically highly dated which IS WHY they are and so special) should NEVER be attempted to exist remade in whatever type of style. I don't think I'g being extremist or in any way unreasonable. Rocky Horror had a place, a fourth dimension in history when the thought of a woman having a tattoo was laughable as what happens in the original pic. Not funny now as people take chosen to become walking billboards or 'works of art' or 'personal expression', etc. Ane of MANY of the jokes NOT applicative anymore in the world today. In fact the characters in The Rocky Horror Pic Testify from 1976 after it finished on stage as a love testify In London. Trivia...only TWO of the characters from the stage production were kept for the movie version. Tim Curry equally Franken Furter and writer/actor Richard O' Brien as Riff Raff. And ALL the main characters DID sing and dance. Meatloaf got his large break beingness in this film version as some other bit of trivia if anyone still remembers who Meatloaf is.

Can anyone imagine a remake of the get-go Pirates of the Caribbean area trying to replace Johnny Depp? So many more than I won't waste the time here. AND some remakes turned out to be Amend than the original version or merely plain different such every bit Scarface. Each version is awesome, but are VERY dissimilar. The Star Trek reboot so far has been more often than not very good and in the first movie it covered WHY at that place was a different cast playing the same characters only in their ain way since situations and circumstances had been changed from the first with the time travel of the rogue Romulan who wants revenge against the original Spock. 1 of the few time travel stories Abrams got correct and didn't make stupid.

I suggest that if ANYONE with the resources wants to practice however another remake of Rocky Horror. I suggest make it a Broadway show with very talented performers Assuasive FULL AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION minus the lighters since people utilize cellphones for lights these days. And follow everything done EXACTLY as it was washed I the original theater production.

Final thought...with all the novels and excellent comic book stories not just of superheroes in existence. Make something good from them since information technology'southward so rare anything original comes out of Hollywood since the 1980s.

Everything that's incorrect with a Hollywood out of ideas

It's got a mod await! Better cameras! Cleaner soundtrack! Even more exaggerated! An even more slick and polished soundtrack that sounds similar it was produced along with a big band! It sucks!

I heard the slick, styled remake of The Time Warp that reminded me of Footloose and couldn't assist but laugh at this farce. And when you hear the classic line "it's just a jump to the left!" you lot hear cypher spirit and strength from Tim Curry, who sounds like he's sadly on his way out. No spirit, no gusto, no enthusiasm, more like grabbing a proper noun who is and so far past his prime number and getting him excited near one terminal fourth dimension... driving at the Indy 500 as a septuagenarian. That'south what this is.

The original was ridiculous. The music was clearly the best part and the pic then ridiculous that the fun was in talking back to the screen such as in Mystery Science Theatre 3000. And the but saving graces in this film is that Tim Curry is so hilarious with his perfectly timed facial expressions, inspired by non copying anyone else. Yet this version rips everything that "worked" out from the original to create a pitiful "homage" version - complete with an audience talking back to the screen - as if it wants to have nostalgic entreatment to one-time fans and bring them in. It's such forced fun that it's painful to sentry. Even the famous "I encounter you shiver in anticip.... ation" line is blown badly. It'due south so overproduced shmaltzy Hollywood conceit that it completely misses the point of why Curry's accept was so fresh.

I have no problem with multiculturalism simply this 1 also strains it with adding another name, Ben Vereen, into the mix. Someone in Hollywood came up with this dumb idea to appeal to anybody and casting a black transsexual as Dr. Frank... which is missing the entire betoken. The point is that Frank is manifestly a MAN dressed upward as a woman, not a man who has been phsycially altered and is taking hormones to wait like a adult female. They simply decided to become with "well, she'southward pop, black and does a pretty good imitation, let the story line and point of the whole routine be damned."

Rating this a four is giving information technology too much credit, fifty-fifty with some of the talent in the show. Adam Lambert is pretty funny and nails his small part very well. But even he can't save this overproduced farce which has cutaways to bear witness it's a movie / musical and that merchandise can be purchased easily and tweet information technology out to all your friends. Hollywood just survives because Indies have yet to supervene upon this large upkeep slop.
