Are you specifically wanting a 3rd Grade? You should be able to get Basic Med, simply will need a Special Issuance due to the Myocardial Infarction. I'd become ahead and observe a md nearby that is capable of doing Basic Med and get the ball rolling.
  3. You must have had an FAA medical within ten years to get Basic Med.

It'due south been over x years at present my 3rd class expired. I'm looking for a 3rd class because my business and I will be flight a Pilatus PC-12. I'grand waiting to become a re-create of my medical records for the hospital but was told past them that my records were purged. I'yard getting the feeling that this is going to be a royal pain in the rear terminate to become done. Give thanks you guys for the info.
  6. If I was y'all? I'd call the RFS role and enquire what I needed to do. Or AOPA PPS if you happen to subscribe to that. The RFS role's Program Director has been a best resouce for me.

Regardless of when his medical expired, he is not eligible for basicmed all the same. He volition accept to reestablish the third class with a a special issuance first. Or he could fly sport with a drivers license.

As to the 3rd class procedure, it is not something I am familiar with. My recommendation would be to find a local AME and ask him. The more of what the FAA wants to see that you can bring to the exam, the shorter the SI wait will be. The exam will go deferred, but if information technology gets deferred and you already have all the forms submitted, then you are months ahead of the response curve.

I know that some people exercise get their medical dorsum, so it is a very possible matter to exercise.

You lot might exist able to piecemeal stuff from your pcp or cardiologist as they might have some stuff saved.
  10. Not necessarily. From what Dr. Bruce Chien has posted in similar cases, y'all will demand at least a electric current cardiac assessment from your treating dr. and a stress treadmill EKG, using the Bruce protocol, to at least 9 minutes and a center rate of xc% of (220 - your age). I'm not sure whether the stress test has to include nuclear imaging as well. Considering the nuke entails meaning radiation exposure, I wouldn't get that washed proactively, just once you're sure the FAA requires it. Whether they are going to insist on the hospital records or non, I'm not certain. If they were really purged (every bit opposed to sent to Iron Mountain), then that sounds like a expert reason to detect an alternative style to satisfy FAA, and a good pilot abet AME (like Bruce) is what you need.

Side issue: what others take said about the fourth dimension limit for BasicMed being "within the last x years" isn't quite authentic. The time window is, whatever time since July something (xvi?), 2006, which is over 12 years ago now. Unfortunately, because of your MI, the time window is irrelevant unless you already had an SI for it since the MI. Otherwise, y'all need a i-time SI, which you can and then permit expire afterward a year and go BasicMed.

Sport pilots may utilize driver's license in lieu of 3rd class medical but must likewise adhere to the following condition:

"Know of whatever medical status that would make that person unable to operate a calorie-free-sport aircraft in a safe manner."

This is the FAA catch-all phrase that would limit folks with a history centre attacks, diabetes, high claret force per unit area etc from acting as Motion picture of an aircraft. Some meet a driver's license as the only qualifying medical requirement to fly light-sport. Not. Heck, even someone wanting to fly gliders or hot air balloons which doesn't fifty-fifty crave a driver's license are grounded by the above phrase if they knowingly take a status and respond information technology honestly.
The only skillful a driver'south license does is possibly save good for you people money and eliminate the requirement of having to see an AME.

That a person had a heart assail 11 years ago does not disqualify a sport pilot today. The check for self certification under 61.53 does not wait at history, it checks the airplane pilot'southward conditions correct now.

Regulations affecting the issuances of first, 2nd or third class medicals exercise not apply to sport pilots. Regulations for flight without medical certification under basicmed do not impact sport pilots. What affects sport pilots is whether or non they have a drivers license and whether or not they know they have a condition at the fourth dimension of the flight which would impair the condom operation.

I submit that a 11 year history of good cardiac health would tend to go out well-nigh people with the notion that they do not have a condition which would impair safe functioning.

Small tweak since I but was looking at the Basicmed Air-conditioning today. I always say 10 years as well, but the phrase is "held a valid medical after July 14 2006".

So perchance basicmed is in play since 11 years ago was 2007, but the OP will still accept to get the cardiac SI.

  14. Probably because it was 10 years ago when the statute was being enacted. But that's all irrelevant to the OP. Even if his last medical expired before 2006, in one case he gets the cardiac SI, he has had a valid medical "after July 14, 2006" and so volition be eligible to get BasicMed.
  15. A "cardiac SI" would be a current medical.

All the talk virtually Sport Airplane pilot won't assistance the OP get into a PC-12.

If a guy tin afford a PC-12 he can afford to enlist assistance getting the SI. It'll exist worth the effort. Skillful luck, blackvette!

  17. If whatever condition is under control - why would it be a problem? The FAA doesn't remember that information technology is necessarily a problem - if they did, then they wouldn't result Due south.I.south
And then, if you are safety to operate as Moving-picture show, then why would this be a trouble?
  18. Well, Dr. Lou, and I have different approaches. Outset go the Cath study, admission notation and discharge summary from the heart cath that you lot had 11 years ago. Someone needs to make sure you have no part of the heart remaining backside a lxx% lesion as of 2007, because if y'all did even back then that's a denial at present based on anatomy.

Since FAA is going to desire these I'd set them upwardly and obtain:

Stress treadmill to middle rate >90% of your historic period related Vmax. I would do that. I'd make information technology a stress Repeat owing to branch blocks and the like potentially invalidating the EKG portion (like a belt and suspenders).

    Fasting glucose and lipids
Current office evaluation by your cardiologist or PCP if he is willing to talk over your Cardiac chance factor management.

And so I'd utilize and send it all in if it'due south all favorable. Why would you become earlier a federal review without having all your ducks lined upwards?

At least this mode, if any of the information is unfavorable, you have not practical. A man who has not applied can't be denied and and then for Sport Pilot (waaaay downward from a PC12 but flight notwithstanding) remains available....

    Bruce
